Beautiful clean quiet cottage in a secluded community on the mountain. Great place to stay, they supplied some OJ, coffee, milk, and cereal.

My friends and I stayed at this cottage in early April and had a lovely time. The cottage itself is not located next to any nearby stores, but it serves as a nice place to come back for the evening, have dinner, and rest. Any activity outside of the cottage will be done down the mountain closer to town. There is a variety of trails and parks nearby, of which can be found by the brochures kept in the cottage. The cottage itself is remote, however there are neighbors nearby. This did not cause any problems for my group, but if you want total isolation you will need to look elsewhere. Cell service is sparse on the mountain, but that was ok for my group and plenty of info was provided in paper maps/pamphlets. The cabin was warm, the showers were hot, everything was very cozy and comfortable. If you’re looking for a place to relax at the end of your day in the area, I highly recommend this; particularly to couples.

We enjoyed a much needed post pandemic (no kiddos, doggos) Anniversary trip. The cabin was very comfortable and clean. Parking was a little scary – super narrow (fence on either side) driveway.

Beautiful cabin. Beautiful location. About 15 minutes to Meadows of Dan. About 25 minutes to Mount Airy. Quite and peaceful. They aren’t kidding about lack of cell service though. Maybe print out directions before you go because gps was hard to get started (if you use your phone) but overall thoroughly enjoyable and lovely.

The Fern Cottage is a quaint little cabin perfect for two couples or a single family. Two bedrooms each with a private bath, kitchen and sitting area. Very nice large deck out front. We found the cottage to be spotlessly clean upon arrival.

We drove up from the south and Apple Maps took us right to the cottage. Be aware that if you arrive after dark, the sign is difficult to see at first. I had to drive a complete circle around before I saw it. Also, the driveway/parking area is extremely narrow. We had a small SUV and it was still a little tight. If you drive a larger vehicle getting in/out and handling luggage will be a chore but worth it as the cottage is very nice.

Our trip was a quick overnight stay so we did not get to enjoy the beautiful views. Seeing the surrounding mountains embraced by the morning fog can be almost surreal.

Give the Fern Cottage a try. You will not be disappointed!

We stumbled on this cabin at the last second and it was incredible! One of the best locations I’ve ever been to. Right in the mountains, quiet, and overall a memorable experience I won’t forget. Just be prepared to not have great service, but the cabin is on a mountain so that should expected. Highly recommend!!

Do not stay here. We arrived after a long, fun-filled day with family on the July 4th weekend only to find the property was not cleaned— beds unmade with dirty linens, dirty towels in the floor, dirty wash cloths in the tubs and trash in the trash cans. It was extremely disappointing. We had to drive all the way to the next town across the state line (30+ min) with our small children and get an overpriced hotel. We wasted so much money and time on groceries and traveling back and forth to see our family because the property owners did not clean. Most importantly, we feel our safety and health compromised— we are still in a pandemic!

OUR RESPONSE: We apologized for the miscommunication with housekeeping that the home was not ready for Ms. Bowman’s arrival. Full refund was submitted immediately. As you can see based on our reviews, this was not our norm. Please allow us to be human and make mistakes.

Beautiful cabin in a peaceful setting. It was sparkling clean, and the hosts provide milk, orange juice, cereal, and plenty of keurig cups. We enjoyed sitting on the deck and listening to nothing but birds and the breeze. Definitely hoping to have a return visit!

FANTASTIC!!! Lovely in every way. Cozy Cabin! Top notch! Kitchen fully stocked. Great outdoor area for dining or enjoying the mountain breeze. No wifi. Little cell service. There is an overlook close by with great service. However, we enjoyed being unplugged. Stairs are steep from parking area (fits 2 cars) to front door. This might be a problem for elderly folks. Host responds very quickly and super helpful. Several parks, rivers with plenty of trout, sunflower fields, apple orchards and more to see and do. Jane’s Cafe in Meadows of Dan has down home cooking. Poor Farms has sandwiches + ice cream in rear of store with a great covered outdoor seating area. Don’t forget to stop by Nacy’s Candy Shop. Down the road a bit is a unique antique store (follow signs). There is also a loud (bring ear plugs for kids) dirt track that runs Friday nights in Ararat (cash only). Peaceful is an understatement for this property! We will book again. This was the perfect getaway! 1000% recommend this property to anyone! Rings in at the top of our Airbnb list!
